Education International takes centre stage in New York as leaders from around the world meet at the UN to make sustainable development education a global priority.
On 28 June at the United Nations headquarters in New York, key Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 4 stakeholders are convening with the aim of making inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities for all a reality.
The event, which features high level panel discussions throughout the day, will include a global citizenship education discussion where Education International (EI) is set to voice the influential role of the teaching profession.
President of EI, Susan Hopgood, is among four panellists who will tackle “Education for Sustainable Development and Education for Global Citizenship.”
Hopgood is expected to outline EI’s three major components which it believes are required to create and maintain sustainable development education. These include a system approach, a strong teaching profession, and a properly developed curriculum.
The UN and Goal 4 stakeholders are seeking to raise awareness of the development agenda as a whole, in order to foster better understanding about the SDGs, their interconnectedness and to enhance the promotion of global citizenship.
