A Trade Union Rights Workshop which was held from 14-16 Jan 2007 for EI member organisations from the Southeast Asian region received widespread support from participants from all corners of the region.

Held in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, the workshop aimed to encourage more active exchanges on the situation of trade union rights in the member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN). Another objective of the event was to enhance the participants' understanding of ILO instruments, complaint processes and supervisory mechanisms.

Together, 22 participants from EI member organisations across the region put together a plan for future action and collaboration and looked at how they can provide advice, training and support for their colleagues at home. Both national and regional plans for future course of action were also developed for the defence and promotion of trade union rights.
