More than 5,000 temporary teachers have been permanently absorbed by the Limpopo education department with effect from the beginning of April.

Ndo Mangale, the spokesperson for the department, says the temporary teachers who qualify are those who have worked for more than two years and have had posts at their schools. EI affiliate the South African Democratic Teachers union (SADTU) expressed their satisfaction in the manner which the absorption process of temporary educators is progressing. The union praised Harry Nengwekhulu, the former head of the Limpopo education department, describing him as an unselfish and hardworking leader who had taken the province to where it is today.
