Global Trade Union UNCSW preparatory meeting in the USA
The Global Trade Union Commission on the Status of Women (UNCSW) preparatory team met for the first time ever in New York from 6-7 December. The meeting was organised by Public Services International, the International Trade Union Confederation and EI, and supported by FES.
It aimed to:
· Build a common lobbying/campaigning strategy and action plan for UNCSW
· Outline strategic priorities of global unions at national, regional and global level
· Network and build stronger coalitions with other civil society major groups
· Organise visibility actions during the UNCSW 2017
At the meeting with UN Women, trade unionists stressed the role of unions and their inputs along the UNCSW. The ILO reported on joint work with UN Women on the Coalition on Equal Pay and said it would welcome trade unions’ suggestions for best practices.
