With the 105th Session of the International Labour Conference about to kick-off in Geneva, Switzerland, education unions from around the world are set to strongly represent the rights and working conditions of teachers.
From 30 May to 10 June, Education International (EI) is being represented by a 15-strong delegation from different continents and countries at the International Labour Conference. The delegation is leded by Haldis Holst, EI Deputy General Secretary. Delegates will participate in the work of the Committees on the Application of Standards, on Decent Work in Supply Chains, and on Employment and Decent Work for the Transition to Peace.
The report of the Joint ILO and UNESCO Committee of Experts on the Application of the Recommendations concerning Teaching Personnel (CEART) will be discussed in the afternoon of 31 May, in the Committee on Application of Standards. Education International (EI) is coordinating a series of statements on issues concerning terms and conditions of employment, the trend in some countries towards the privatisation of education and the impact of war and other emergencies on the access to education.
