The denial of union rights and the unjust treatment of union members in the Asia-Pacific Region were highlighted at Education International’s 7th World Congress on 24 July in Ottawa, Canada.
Ryosuke Kato, Japan Teachers’ Union, and Ram Pal Singh, the All India Primary Teachers Federation (AIPTF), raised concerns about the treatment of education workers and their unions in countries such as Fiji, Cambodia, Korea, India, and the Phillipines. The two delegates were placing Resolution 2.9 Issues in the Asia-Pacific Region to Congress on behalf of the Executive Board of Education International (EI).
Amongst other things, the resolution commits EI to continue raising issues of Cambodia and Fiji, in particular, with the International Labour Organization and other relevant institutions.
