Brazil: regional women’s conference
Last week, the regional office of EI in Latin America organised a conference with female education workers ( Red de Trabajadoras de la Educación) in Recife, Brazil as part of the culmination week's events. It focused on the promotion of an alternative pedagogy and on the need for a stronger union between Latin American unions. Power, public policies and gender equity in education were also on the agenda. Fatima da Silva, president of the Brazilian CNTE, stated in the opening speech that taking into account and relying on the “day-to-day pedagogy of those who make the public school happen in the continent” was urgently needed.
Getting ready for World Teachers' Day
Quality education will also be a focus point during World Teachers’ Day, 5th October, when teachers around the globe will be celebrated in classrooms, villages, and cities for their tireless dedication to the profession.
To make October 5th a day to remember, EI is calling on all members and colleagues to take part by having their voices heard to ensure world leaders know how important a quality teacher is in helping students reach their full potential.
Beginning at 12:00 noon, EI is asking everyone to ‘Push the Button’ by emailing, texting, or tweeting your messages of support for quality education directly to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon. Click here for more information.
