The latest edition of EI’s flagship magazine focuses on solidarity between teachers worldwide.
A special report highlights the tremendous success of EI’s post-tsunami school reconstruction project. With the support of Oxfam Novib and many individuals worldwide, EI was able to help rebuild 35 new schools in Banda Aceh, Indonesia, and 8 more in Sri Lanka.
Teachers and concerned citizens worldwide also showed solidarity with Iranian workers at the occasion of the Iranian Action Day, on 26 June. An opportunity EI seized to ask once more for social justice and respect of trade union and human rights, as well as the immediate release of imprisoned activists in this country.
The publication further details the new EI campaign “Hands up for Education: the smart strategy for economic recovery.” This campaign aims to assist EI’s 400 affiliates in their efforts to ensure that funding for public education is enhanced, not cut back, as governments struggle to cope with the impact of the global economic crisis.
Other stories featured are: EI action to bridge the digital divide in Morocco, teaching abolition at the occasion of World Day against the death penalty on 10 October, and the reintegration of prisoners through education.
