Impact of the Economic Crisis on Education in Central and Eastern Europe

EI will host a high-level seminar on the impact of the economic crisis on education in Central and Eastern Europe (CEE) for its member organisations in the region in Warsaw from 2-4 Sep 2009.

The aim of this seminar, as part of EI’s global campaign on the financial crisis, is to address the impact of the crisis on teachers and on EI member organisations in the CEE region before the start of the next school year.

Topics to explore will include the following:

  • The impact of government borrowing on teacher trade unions and on individual teachers and on education provision;
  • The effect of the financial crisis on teachers’ working conditions/ professional standards;
  • Trade union negotiating strategies in times of financial crisis.
