Last October CNTE/Brazil joined the EFAIDS Programme. The union kicked off their programme activities with a national level seminar on STDs and AIDS, which took place in Brasilia from October 2-4.
More than 40 people from 16 states received training from experts of the Brazilian Ministries of Health and Education at the CNTE seminar. The training gave teachers the opportunity to develop plans for action in schools, including World AIDS Day activities. This is the first time that CNTE has participated in World AIDS Day in Brazil.
At the seminar, CNTE also agreed to start working with the Health and Prevention in Schools Project (SPE). The SPE brings together representatives of the government at state and municipal levels and CSOs working on health and education issues. It aims to step up the debate on themes such as teenage pregnancy, gender relations, sexual diversity, vulnerability and prevention of STDs and AIDS in the school setting. The participants of the CNTE seminar were made responsible for mobilising education workers and for linking their World AIDS Day activities to the work of the SPE team.
