In 2007, subscribers to EI’s electronic newsletter on trade and education and GATS will receive a brand new, revamped edition of TradEducation News. Meanwhile, the last issue of this year’s newsletter is now available for download.
In this issue, we cover the "soft" relaunch of the stalled Doha Round, the clash between two Ministries in India over GATS and education, as well as EI’s continuing lobbying in Geneva.
EI’s Information Kit on GATS and Education
EI is proud to publish a Information Kit on the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS) and Education for all member organisations who are concerned about the inclusion of education in trade negotiations.
In this information kit, you will find a glossary of key terms employed in GATS negotiations, and explanations in layperson’s terms on concepts such as domestic regulations and plurilateral requests. On top of that, we have made a whole compilation of most up-to-date GATS commitments made by each country. Furthermore, updates of the information kit will be provided.
It is the responsibility of all educators to protect education from being sold off as a commodity! Act now by understanding what GATS and trade agreements mean for education.
