EI affiliate the NASUWT is supporting the United Nations International Day of Peace on 21 September by encouraging schools to sing a specially-composed song for peace.

In collaboration with Peace One Day and the national charity Youth Music, the NASUWT aims to involve all 23,000 schools in the United Kingdom in singing, on World Peace Day 2006, the song 'No Wars Will Stop Us Singing'.

World Peace Day provides a focus for young people to reflect on how they can create peace at home, on the street and in their school. It also provides the opportunity for them to consider how they can play their part in creating peace across the world.

The annual event arose from UN resolution 55/282, passed unanimously by the UN member states in September 2001 to create a fixed global date each year to mark non-violence, conflict resolution and global ceasefire.

Some teachers will accompany the singing with class tutorials on issues of conflict resolution within the context of citizenship.

So far, over 4,500 schools from across the UK have registered. If you would like more details, please visit the website of the NASUWT.
