EI calls upon all its member organisations to submit nominations for the 2006 UNESCO Prize for Human Rights Education.

The Prize was established in 1978 to mark the 30th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and to honour efforts of organizations or individuals, having made an exemplary contribution to the advancement of knowledge on human rights and building a universal culture of human rights. It is also intended to encourage and stimulate new initiatives in this regard. The UNESCO Prize for Human Rights Education is awarded every two years. The prize-winners and the candidates distinguished by an honourable mention are chosen by the Director-General following the proposal of the International Jury, composed of six public figures representing the different regions of the world.

The value of the Prize is US $ 10,000. The winner also receives a trophy specially created by the Japanese artist Toshimi Ishii, known as "Toshi".

Both EI and its affiliates are active in the education and training in human rights and the building of a universal culture of human rights.

Either an individual or an organisation may be nominated.
