EI affiliate the South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) and the education department have agreed that all temporary educators in the Eastern Cape province will be given permanent contracts.

The move will see nearly 3000 teachers being employed. Mxolisi Dimaza, a SADTU official, says the resolution also covers non-serving temporary teachers, who have served the department for a year or more. Dimaza says there will be clarification on such posts before July.
