Manuela Mendonça has been President of the National Board of the National Federation of Teachers (FENPROF/Portugal) since 2019. When she finished her university degree in Modern Languages and Literatures in 1982, she decided to become a secondary school teacher. After completing an in-service training course in educational sciences, she began teaching Portuguese and English. Manuela’s union activism started in 1990. She became President of the Union of Teachers from the North (SPN, the second largest union of FENPROF) in 2008, and a member of FENPROF National Secretariat. As National Secretary, she has been in charge of the International Affairs Department. She was a member of the ETUCE Committee from 2011-2015; in 2015 she was elected for the Education International Executive Board and was reelected in 2019.
